The 1st trimester of pregnancy is a delicate time. You go through a lot of physical and emotional variations. Although each woman react differently to the hormonal changes that occur in their bodies but there are some common symptoms that almost all women feel. The first most obvious symptom is missing your periods. Take pregnancy tests immediately if you’ve passed your periods date. Once you get pregnant you feel nauseous especially in the morning. It’s called morning sickness. Your breasts will show signs too e.g. soreness, tenderness etc. The areas around nipples (areolas) begin to grow darker as a result of hormonal changes. While your body’s trying to nurture the baby, it losses energy fast and you feel exhaustion. Fatigue is the most common symptom of early days of pregnancy. The food you love the most can start to taste disgusting. According to a study almost 90% of women have food cravings. These cravings can even be for a dish you usually didn’t ever like to eat. Most women experience the need to urinate more frequently during pregnancy.
While your body learns to adjust to this huge change there are some precautions you must take. Dehydration in the early stages could become the reason of miscarriage. Make sure you keep your body hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids including water. Intake of fruits and vegetables enriched with liquid can be helpful too (Make sure you wash them well before eating). Many women can’t help their smoking habit. Smoking, drinking or drug usage can be very harmful for the growing fetus. It can even result in complications before and after birth. The child’s mental growth could get affected. Limit your caffeine intake. Research showed that caffeine highly increases the risk of a miscarriage. Avoid all drinks that have caffeine in it e.g. colas, black tea, green tea etc. Ask your doctor to give you the list of food you must not eat during the first trimester.
