A young child between the ages of 1-3 is considered a toddler. It’s the time when a child begins to realise that it’s a different person and can do things on its own. Majority of kids start walking at the age of one while few others start at 8 or 9 years of age. At toddlers age a child will also develop it’s own thoughts and ideas. The development of a child is divided into many stages interconnected with each other. It involves physical, mental and muscles growth. Child learns to speak first few words during this period. In the first year a child also starts walking with or without help, its weight would be triple than the birth weight, height grows 50% above the birth length, responds to its name, learns simple commands, explore surrounding things etc. It walks away from parents out of curiosity for objects nearby but gets scared if you move away.
Childproofing your house is extremely important to ensure the safety of your child. You must take certain precautionary measures to avoid any unusual accidents.
By the age of 2 children like to feed themselves. It’s their learning period so trying to eat themselves gets messy. Don’t forcefully clean it up until he/she’s finished eating or else your child may lose interest in the idea of eating much. Lay a cloth underneath if you’re concerned about the mess. It’s also the right time to get a potty chair for the kid. Teach him/her the use of it. This may take some time but he/she will get on it eventually.
